Airtel Uganda’s ‘Beerako’ Doubles the Loan Limit

  • The borrowed airtime may be used to make calls, send SMS or buy data…

For the first time in the Ugandan telecommunications industry, subscribers will be able to borrow airtime more than once, thanks to Airtel Uganda’s newly revamped ‘Beerako’ service.

‘Beerako’ is a service that allows customers to borrow airtime to call, text and even buy data for their personal use and pay back whenever they recharge their accounts. With the recent improvement of the service, subscribers can now borrow a maximum of two loans within their qualified limit, with each loan having its own grace period.

“By simply dialing *155#, our subscribers will always be able to stay in touch by calling, messaging or buying data to access social media,” commented Remy Tugume, Airtel Uganda’s New Product Development Manager.

“One of the unique features offered by the new ‘Beerako’ is the fact that only one loan can be recovered at a time – the oldest one first – when an account is recharged and as soon as the first loan has been repaid, you are free to get a second loan within your loanable limit,”Tugume added, revealing that in the event that a SIM card has been replaced, the advance is readily available the moment the number is back in use as long as the grace period has not expired.

‘Beerako’ attracts a service fee of only 11% per loan and subscribers can access it by simply dialing *155# to borrow and *170# to check the available balance. In the case that a subscriber has recharged their account and wants to settle their loans, they are able to trigger recovery through the pay back option on the Menu.
