This week Jumia Jobs helps you answer six questions that are commonly asked in interviews.

Interviews are usually nerve wracking especially if you are not sure of how to answer most of the questions that are being asked. It is important to practice practice, practice before an interview however we do not encourage cramming responses as you will sound rehearsed and this will leave your hiring manager sceptical.

We are still looking for a way to know the answers to what the hiring manager is bound to ask but in the meantime as we wait on that miracle we can help you answer six questions commonly asked in interviews.

  • Tell us about yourself.

This question seems simple but usually rattles most candidates, note that the potential employer is not asking about your personal or employment history. They are mainly interested in your accomplishments and experiences that make you the perfect fit for the job.

  • What do you know about the company?

With this question the hiring manager is not looking for the generic info that you read from their profile page or company website. They want to make sure that you understand and care about what they do as a company.

  • Why should we hire you?

This question can make or break you and therefore can come off as intimidating. However this question can be used to your advantage if answered currently. Use this opportunity to sell yourself highlight your strengths and how you will work well with the team.

  • Why are you leaving your current job?

This is definitely the most awkward question especially if you have been fired/let go. However it is important to stay positive when answering this question, do not bad mount your previous employer as this will make you look immature.

  • How do you deal with stressful situations?

The hiring manager wants to know that you will not crack under pressure. So talk about some of the situations that were stressful in your past and how you were able to work through them and how you were able to adapt and deliver.

  • What are your salary requirements?

This is the question that we all look forward to, however do not rush to answer this question without further thought. Before going to the interview check the paygrade of the job you are interviewing for. This will help you make an informed request and make sure that you do not guess too high or too low.
